When George Ridding, using his own money, purchased the 6.5 acres of Culver Close , the first Housemasters had to provide £7,000 each for building Commoner block: Fearon’s, Moreshead’s, Sergeant’s and Bramston’s; they also paid Ridding £400 rent.
