Sodium alginate is widely used in various industries including food, textile printing and pharmaceutical. Dental impression material utilizes alginate as its means of gelling. Alginate is present in the cell walls of brown algae, as the calcium, magnesium and sodium salts of alginic acid. Alginates are refined from brown seaweeds.
