Forney began as the small community of “Brooklyn” when the Texas & Pacific railroad was platted through the heart of our community in the 1870s. The name “Brooklyn” was changed due to another community in Texas already having a post office in their name. It was then decided the name would be Forney, in honor of rail executive and prominent political figure, John W. Forney. More
