Twinwood Festival incorporates the Glenn Miller Festival
of Swing, Jazz, Jive and Rock ‘n’ Roll. ***
Held annually, always over the August bank-holiday weekend, it is THE largest and best, annual, vintage music, dance and fashion festival of its kind. With over 60 bands and ten venues (indoors and outdoors) within the festival site, there is always plenty of choice to suit all musical tastes. John Miller & his Orchestra, Si Cranstoun, and The Jive Aces are just a tiny sample of the exquisite selection of bands who will be performing in 2013. As well as the music, there are air displays, hangar dances, fashion shows, comedy shows, and hundreds of trade stalls selling everything vintage, from fashions, music to home furnishings. There are dance lessons & workshops, food and bars, museums, living history, classic vehicles, camping and so much more at Twinwood Festival. ***
The historic RAF Twinwood Airfield, is unique and creates an atmosphere unlike any other venue. On the Twinwood Arena Stage the emphasis is on non-stop, high quality music from many top orchestras and artistes performing the great hits from the big band, swing and Jive era. The Control Tower stage is where the Rock ’n’ Roll bands are found. Alternative indoor venues within the festival site include: The Colonial Club which is a huge and luxurious Art Deco themed venue with café, stage, boutique market and dance floor. The Hangar is where to go for 1940's dancing. The Marquee for Rock n Roll, the Tin Hat Club is where to listen and dance to Swing and Jazz, The Cafe Bois de Jumeau; Chanson et Musette from the 30s to the 50s including Hot Club, Piaf etc. The Casablanca Club is a steamy nightclub, and the theme is based on the film - step back into Wartime Morocco! The Open Mic Club showcases new talent, and The Glade is an amazingly atmospheric night time venue - listen to acoustic Gypsy Jazz around an open campfire, in a woodland clearing. ***
Twinwood Festival has been running annually in its present form for 12 years, although the first Glenn Miller Concert was performed on the airfield in 1944! The festival has earned a great reputation over the years, and always sells out well in advance, with visitors travelling from around the world to attend. Day tickets or full weekend tickets with camping can be purchased, but early booking is essential. The campsite has beautiful, panoramic views of the North Bedfordshire countryside, and facilities within include toilets, showers, fresh water points, chemical disposal points, hair drying facilities and there is a breakfast café, and campsite shop, selling all the usual provisions. ***
