The town is dubbed the uranium capital of the world as it is located just 15km outside the world’s largest and longest-running open-pit uranium mine, the Rössing Uranium Mine. The town is also home to the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology, a technical institute focused on training skilled industrial workers.
