Public health laboratories have been indirectly addressing health disparities as long as they have existed. Yet there is now a growing effort to more consciously address the concept of health equity. Instead of waiting for residents to ask for services, more public health laboratories are thinking critically about the role they play in providing services to underserved communities and are reaching out to other public health partners in new collaborations.
