Chronic pain can often begin at an early age when children’s developing brain and the rest of the nervous system are much more plastic than adults’. While some are to be genetically predisposed to higher pain sensitivity, it is the environment and social upbringing that can determine how likely children can develop chronic pain as they grow up.
