Potassium carbonate is a white salt or colorless solid crystals and has a salty taste with structural formula K2CO3 used in day to day life in the form of glass and soap. It is a key component of the mined salt potash, so known as potash or pearl ash. It dissolves to form a powerful alkaline solution, but is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone, and ether.
