Leon Claire Metz (1930-2020) remains a celebrated American cultural historian, penning over 19 books. In 1991, he co-founded Travel The Pass with Sylvia Gevália Landeros, a sociocultural marketing researcher/MMD, to explore, publish, and film the borderland history of the Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico region. On October 22, 2024, the city of El Paso, Texas, issued a proclamation commemorating Leon Metz Travel The Pass Day, recognizing the organization’s 33+ years of binational academic works.
