Situated about 20km west of Kriel in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province, the Matla mining complex comprises three mines producing 14Mtpa of power station coal with a workforce of more than 2 500 people. It is a fully mechanised underground mine employing continuous mining and short-wall methods.
